Komala was born in Durban, South Africa and moved to Alberta at age 10. During her first mental health placement as a student OT she discovered her lifelong passion. Komala’s dynamic 35-year career included a leadership role as an Addiction and Mental Health program manager with AHS, Edmonton. The highlight of Komala’s career was leading transformative system change in the area of peer support and recovery focused care. Komala is a founding member of EMHAC and believes wholeheartedly in its mission to enrich the lives of people who live with mental illness. She knows the best way to do this is to eradicating stigma and myths with facts, education and consistent messaging.

Jennifer Hope is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness. She is excited to follow in her mentor, friend and EMHAC’s creator Wendy Enberg’s footsteps as Chair. Jenn shares her personal experience with mental illness and her current mental health recovery through public speaking, vlogging, and blogging, and has had her posts published on multiple platforms such as Sick Not Weak & Mental Health Canada. Jennifer brings passion and lived experience to the committee and both are assets in raising awareness.
Mary wears many hats: mother, wife, and grandmother, but mental health advocacy is her passion. Not only does she live with it, she cares for many that have mental health struggles. She spends her time trying to educate others in order to reduce stigma and raise awareness. EMHAC has helped her to become a part of something bigger, something important. She joined EMHAC to help make a difference.
Vivian is a vocal mental health advocate in the Edmonton community. Her passion for mental health stemmed from personal experiences. Over the years, she had held leadership roles with the University of Alberta and local community to raise awareness for mental health. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters in Public Health, hoping to make an impact in the field of health policy one day. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new food spots in her neighborhood.
Growing up in a place where mental health/illness was (and is still) a topic that nobody really talks about, Roxine was not able to find resources and support when she was going through tough times in her life. It was really mind-blowing to learn that there are ways to deal with negative emotions and stress, and that mental illness is not something to be ashamed about. Roxine is always looking to better herself and keep the conversations surrounding mental health/illness going.
Janice Patterson Krysko
It was through helping her son manage his journey through a diagnosis of anxiety and losing her cousin to suicide that Janice became a voice to raise the profile of mental health. She is a multi-faceted professional - 20 years as a public relations professional then pursuing a certificate in special education which led to her current administrative position with a local school board. Her focus is to continue the conversation on the importance of caring about our mental health and to ensure there are always doors open to those who need help 24/7.
Cecilia grew up in rural Alberta where mental health awareness and supports are very limited. Since moving to Edmonton for university, Cecilia has participated in many projects and initiatives aimed to reduce stigma and make mental health help available to everyone. Cecilia has also been involved with international wellness ventures during her travels, working with agencies overseas to support people struggling with things like mental illness, family violence, and severe trauma. Cecilia recently completed her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and is passionate about walking with her clients through their recovery journeys, helping them to heal, grow, and reach their full potential. Cecilia is excited to be a part of EMHAC and hopes that it will allow her to continue advocating for the importance of accessible counselling, suicide prevention training, and other resources that exist so that people do not have to fight these battles alone. Cecilia finds inspiration in nature and practices self-care by dancing, baking, and petting as many dogs as she can!
Growing up in an environment that didn’t realize that Mental Health was an issue, Krishlene Mudaliar recognized the importance of Mental Health in university and how it affects students, in particular how that is carried on after post secondary. Making sure to have the sources and not feeling ashamed about talking about mental status is paramount to her and she hopes to make a difference in even the smallest of ways. Becoming an advocate of mental health is something she hopes to achieve. In her spare time she enjoys photography, fashion and food finding!
Randi was a shy introverted individual who secretly struggled with mental health beginning in her early teens. While maintaining high academic standing throughout her schooling, no one would have recognized the challenges she was battling internally. During her early 30’s, Randi began a downward spiral causing her to finally reach out for help. Diagnosed with Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, CPTSD, OCD, BPD, Randi began treatments, and her road to recovery. She left her career of 17 years in production and went back to school for law, where she is putting her passion for helping others to work. As an advocate for mental health she continues on her journey helping others by taking courses and is soon to be certified in many areas for mental health awareness. Randi is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues. She explains that letting her walls down, learning to trust, and becoming vulnerable was the hardest thing she’s ever dealt with; She never thought that what she went through would shape her purpose years later.
